Admiral (Retd.) Kanchana Banagoda has been appointed Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (AASL), effective 1 September 2026.

The appointment places the former senior naval officer at the helm of the state-owned organisation responsible for managing and developing Sri Lanka’s civil airports and aviation infrastructure.

W. W. S. Mangala, Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, has been serving as Acting Chairman following the departure of former Chairman Harsha Abeywickrama in January.

Admiral Banagoda’s appointment comes as Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its aviation sector and enhance airport infrastructure, connectivity and operational capabilities to support tourism, trade and wider economic growth.
