The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Maldives Business Chamber have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening trade, investment and commercial partnerships between businesses in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The MoU was signed by Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairperson Krishan Balendra and Maldives Business Chamber President Ahmed Amjad, marking a further step towards expanding private sector engagement between the two neighbouring economies.
The signing took place in the presence of Sri Lanka’s Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe and Maldives High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Masood Imad.
Under the agreement, the two chambers will establish a framework for sustained collaboration, with particular emphasis on creating business to business connections and promoting new trade and investment opportunities.
The partnership is also expected to support business missions, networking initiatives and the exchange of market intelligence, while encouraging greater cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.
Sri Lanka and the Maldives share longstanding economic and people to people ties, with significant potential for deeper commercial engagement. Tourism, logistics, construction, healthcare, food and agriculture, financial services and professional services have been identified among the areas offering opportunities for further collaboration.
The agreement also strengthens the role of the Sri Lanka Maldives Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in facilitating dialogue and connecting businesses.
Through closer institutional cooperation, the initiative is expected to help companies in both countries identify opportunities, establish partnerships and contribute towards sustainable economic growth.
