Sri Lanka has taken another significant step towards strengthening its digital economy by reviewing the national roadmap aimed at increasing digital export earnings to US$5 billion by 2030. The initiative brings together government agencies, industry leaders and development partners to accelerate the country’s transformation into a globally competitive digital services hub.
The roadmap review focused on identifying key priorities to expand information and communication technology exports, strengthen digital infrastructure, enhance innovation and develop a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting growing international demand. The discussions also examined measures to improve the ease of doing business, encourage investment and foster stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne has previously emphasised that expanding digital exports is central to the Government’s vision of building a modern digital economy, with the sector expected to become a major contributor to national income and employment by the end of the decade.
The review aligns with Sri Lanka’s broader export development strategy, which identifies digital services as one of the country’s priority sectors for future growth. By promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and high value technology services, policymakers aim to position Sri Lanka as a competitive destination for global digital business while creating new opportunities for skilled professionals and technology driven enterprises.
The latest review underscores the Government’s commitment to building a resilient digital ecosystem capable of supporting sustainable economic growth, attracting foreign investment and expanding Sri Lanka’s presence in international digital markets over the coming years.
