Cabinet Approves Chartered Status for Sri Lanka’s ICT Professional Body

Published on

Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has granted policy approval for the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Computing of Sri Lanka, elevating the country’s leading professional body for information and communication technology to chartered status.

The proposal, presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Digital Economy, marks a significant milestone in strengthening the recognition and governance of the ICT profession.

Founded in 1976, the Computer Society of Sri Lanka is the country’s principal professional organisation representing ICT practitioners. Chartered status will place it alongside other recognised professional institutions, enhancing its role in promoting excellence, professional standards and the interests of the computing community.

The Cabinet has also directed the Legal Draftsman to prepare the necessary legislation, paving the way for the institute’s formal establishment. The move reflects Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing its digital economy and aligning professional ICT standards with international best practices.
