‘Badhu Shakthi 2026’ National Tax Week Launched to Promote Voluntary Tax Compliance in Sri Lanka

Published on

The Government of Sri Lanka has launched ‘Badhu Shakthi 2026’ (Tax Power 2026) National Tax Week, a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging voluntary tax compliance, broadening the country’s tax base and strengthening public understanding of the importance of taxation in national development.

The programme, which commenced on 6 July and will continue until 15 July, has been organised under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat’s Revenue Administration and Modernisation Unit in collaboration with key government institutions. The campaign seeks to transform public perceptions of taxation by fostering a culture of transparency, accountability and civic responsibility while promoting greater awareness of taxpayers’ obligations.

The initiative includes a series of awareness programmes, educational campaigns and stakeholder engagements designed to improve tax literacy among individuals, businesses and professionals. Authorities believe that increasing voluntary compliance will contribute significantly to enhancing government revenue, supporting fiscal sustainability and financing essential public services and infrastructure development.

Officials have emphasised that a stronger tax culture is essential for maintaining macroeconomic stability, improving public finances and creating the fiscal space necessary to sustain Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic recovery. The campaign also aligns with broader public sector modernisation efforts and the Government’s commitment to building a more efficient, transparent and digitally enabled tax administration.

As Sri Lanka continues implementing economic reforms, initiatives such as ‘Badhu Shakthi 2026’ are expected to strengthen public confidence in the tax system while reinforcing the shared responsibility of citizens and businesses in supporting sustainable economic growth and long-term national prosperity.
