Kia Surpasses Hyundai in Korea as Global Sales Edge Higher in April

Published on

Kia reported global sales of 277,188 vehicles in April, marking a modest 1% year-on-year increase, driven by strong domestic demand that enabled the automaker to surpass Hyundai Motor in the Korean market for the first time since joining the group in 1998.

Domestic sales rose 7.9% to 55,108 units, supported by robust demand for sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The Sorento led the domestic lineup with 12,078 units, while recreational vehicles dominated overall sales, including the Carnival, Sportage, and the EV3 electric SUV. Passenger vehicles such as the Ray, K5, and K8 also recorded steady performance.

Globally, the Sportage remained Kia’s best-selling model with 51,458 units, followed by the Seltos and Sorento. However, overseas sales declined slightly by 0.6% to 222,080 units, impacted by weaker demand in the Middle East and Africa amid geopolitical uncertainties.

Despite regional challenges, Kia maintained stable performance across major international markets. The company reaffirmed its strategy to sustain growth by expanding its portfolio of eco-friendly vehicles, including electric and hybrid models, signalling a continued focus on sustainable mobility and global market resilience.
