CWIT Achieves One Million TEUs in Record First Year

Published on

Colombo West International Terminal Ltd. (CWIT) has reached a significant milestone by handling one million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) within its first year of operations—the fastest any terminal at the Port of Colombo has achieved this benchmark. The accomplishment highlights CWIT’s advanced infrastructure, operational efficiency, and strong confidence from global shipping lines.

Developed through a partnership between Adani Ports, John Keells Holdings PLC, and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the $800 million project strengthens Colombo’s position as a key transshipment hub. The fully automated deep-water terminal, equipped with modern technology and a 3.2 million TEU capacity, is set to enhance regional maritime connectivity and support sustainable port operations.
