BYD Surpasses Tesla to Become World’s Leading Electric Vehicle Seller

Published on

Tesla** lost its position as the world’s largest electric vehicle seller in 2025 as China’s BYD surged ahead with strong global growth. Tesla delivered 1.6 million vehicles, a 9 percent decline from 2024, while BYD sold 2.3 million units, marking a 28 percent increase. BYD’s rapid overseas expansion, particularly across Europe, has reshaped the competitive landscape. In Britain, sales of BYD and other Chinese electric vehicles doubled in 2025, with nearly 25 percent of new car registrations being electric. Meanwhile Ford achieved its strongest United States sales performance since 2019, despite softer demand for pure electric vehicles.
